Crooked River update

The notes from the monthly Crooked River call were released today. It should surprise no one that the outlook for Prineville Reservoir is not good. It is only 69% full and “unlikely” to fill as there is extremely low snowpack in the Ochoco Mountains. Flows into the Crooked River will be kept at around 80 cfs until irrigation season starts next month. My prediction is that the real impact will be felt at the end of irrigation season next fall (traditionally in mid October) when there will be little water left in the reservoir. I hope we don’t have a repeat of 2022 when flows were drastically reduced between the end of irrigation season and the beginning of HCP mandated flows which resulted in significant fish population declines.
