April 1 Prineville water notes

Today I received the meeting minutes for the monthly Prineville Reservoir / Crooked River meeting. (I received a few questions about this lately, it’s a conference call between the Bureau of Reclamation, who makes the final call on Bowman Dam operations, and a variety of state and federal agencies as well as irrigation districts.) It should surprise no one that things look bleak. Snowpack is essentially gone in the Ochocos and the reservoir is not going to fill. As of April 1 Ochoco Irrigation District had not made the decision on yet on irrigation allocations so we don’t know yet what what summer flows will be in the Crooked River. That being said, the graph shows flows into the Crooked went up today (and flows have gone down below Prineville) so irrigation season is getting underway.
