ODFW is looking for volunteers to stock steelhead fry in the Deschutes and Crooked Rivers on Monday, May 21st. This is part of the reintroduction of steelhead above Lake Billy Chinook.
Fry are released into the Crooked and Deschutes canyons by carrying them in backpacks. Hikes range from 2 -3 miles round trip and can be strenuous and steep. A bag of water and a few thousand fry can fit in an overnight/large backpack and weigh from 25lbs to 40lbs. Meet at 10 a.m. and be done by 3. It will be a full but fun day stocking fish in some really neat areas. Lunch will be provided.
Please respond to Taylor McCroskey at Taylor.McCroskey@state.or.us or 541-325-5296.
