Yesterday the Bend Bulletin had a story titled “Disappearing snowpack drives water shortages across Upper Deschutes, Crooked basins“. The story details some of the cuts that various junior water rights holders are already facing due to the drought with the heat of summer still in front of us. The title of the story is misleading however. Ochoco Irrigation District based in Prineville is not facing cuts as as I detailed in this post. Today Central Oregon Irrigation District announced that they too will reduce water deliveries in the next two weeks. I was pleased to see they stated that the curtailment is due to the drought, not the Deschutes Basin Habitat Conservation Plan.
